You Take Good Care of Me

I was listening to the song “Sparrows” by Cory Asbury while I was plugged in to my music during a root canal at the endodontist. The following words jumped out at me, “the tree that’s planted by the water isn’t fazed by the fire so why should I be?” Cuz you take good care of me…”

I thought about how it applied to what I have been going through, especially lately. Jesus is the living water, if we are rooted and planted in Him we do not have to worry about the fire in our lives when it comes.

I’ve had many months of stressful dental situations and looks like I will be going through many more.

The night before the root canal procedure, which is not new to me, I was getting a sense of peace that everything was going to be ok, instead of my usual hysteria over dental work. This type of peace does not happen often for me so when it does, I take notice!

This is the peace only God can give. It has happened numerous times in my life. It is one way in which God shows up and speaks to me.

This is not to say I feel peaceful all the time since this occurrence, far from it, but at least I had momentary peace that passes all understanding to help me get through what will be an ongoing ordeal. So maybe it’s a sign I am going in the right direction and things will work out, even though so much is still up in the air.

Another time I felt this great sense of peace that can only come from God is when I was pregnant with triplets. What a time that was! One of the ultrasound measurements pointed to a possible issue with my son. As we were on the way to the doctor I got such a sense of peace that no matter what happens, it will be okay. Well thankfully everything did turn out okay! But it was a scary time I will never forget.

I think there are so many times in life where we all can look back and see how God took care of us in various ways and situations. “God-incidences” some people call them.

I suppose some might attribute it to fate or the stars being aligned or other such nonsense but God is more powerful than all that. Who made the stars? Who aligns them? He is the maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – he remains faithful forever. (Psalm 146:6)

At least in writing this I may try to convince myself that an invisible God really is taking care of me at all times. It is me who doesn’t always believe it because sometimes doubts creep in.

If God can take care of me, He can take care of you too, if you are willing to put your trust in Him.
